When to Kill a Meta Ads Campaign (Without Guessing)

We’ve all been there. A campaign was doing fine last week and now it’s eating budget. Do you kill it or give it another few days?

If you’re going by gut feel, you’ll get it wrong half the time. Meta Ads Manager gives you numbers — spend, revenue, ROAS — but it doesn’t tell you what to do with them. That’s where a simple rule set helps.

At The Scaler we use a traffic light: red (eliminate), yellow (monitor), green (optimize or scale). The red bucket is for campaigns below your break-even ROAS or with negative margin. No emotion, just a threshold. Once a campaign crosses that line, it’s not “maybe we should pause it” — it’s out. That alone saves a lot of wasted spend.

If you’re running Meta Ads and you don’t have a clear kill rule yet, pick a ROAS number you’re not willing to go under and stick to it. Your future self will thank you.
